A famous Twitterati (having 1M+ followers) tweeted about wanting to drive a Mercedes high end car. Though Mercedes did not reach out to him, their rival Audi did, and gave him their car for a whole weekend. He tweeted the event with photos of his weekend experience, using hashtags such as “#Audisurpassed #Mercedesexpectation,”. The whole exercise actually improved the reputation of Audi as against that of Mercedes. It increased customer walk-ins at Audi’s showroom and enhanced their visibility. Mercedes later on responded with the offer to drive their car, but by then the race was already lost.
